Barbed Broach

A Barbed Broach is a specialized dental instrument used in endodontic (root canal) treatment to effectively remove pulp tissue from the canal. This delicate extirpating tool is made from round stainless steel wires with notches along its surface, forming barbs that are designed to engage and remove soft tissue from the canal.

Directions of Use

1. Selection:
   • After gaining access to the root canal, select the largest barbed broach that fits loosely in the canal without engaging the canal walls. A snug fit can cause the delicate barbs to flatten against the shaft, leading to difficulty in removal or instrument breakage.
2. Operation:
   • Use the broach in a filing (push-pull) motion. Gently advance the broach into the canal and engage the pulp tissue by pulling back.
   • Avoid excessive pressure to prevent damaging the fragile barbs or the instrument from breaking inside the canal.
3. Precaution:
   • Never use a watch-winding or twisting motion as this could result in the broach breaking inside the canal, posing complications for retrieval.

• Autoclavable: The barbed broach is reusable and can be sterilized in an autoclave at 135°C to maintain cleanliness and prevent cross-contamination.
